Reading Music

Piano and Guitar Lessons

—  We teach all 3 types of sheet music for.  (1) Charts - used by bands on the radio.  (2) Lead Sheets - used by solo instrumentalists.  (3) Full Score - used by classical orchestras.

—  If a person can read a page in english from a book only after practicing that page for one month, then we say that person cannot read english.  If a person can read a page in english from a book the first time that person looks at it, then we say that person can read english.

Its the same way in music.  If a person can play a song from the sheet music, only after practicing it for one month.  Then, that person does not know how to read music.  If a person can play a song the first time they look at the sheet music, then, that person can read music.  Our students learn to read music.  In traditional lessons, students memorize one song per month.  Our students, after 3 months, can play songs the first time they look at the sheet music.

—  When people are every young, before they learn to read english, they first learn the sounds of each letter of the alphabet.  This does not mean that they know how to read yet.  However, many people know what note on a page goes with each note on their instrument and, they think that means they know how to read music.  But, this does not mean they know how to read music.

—  In traditional lessons, students learn to read music enough to know what note to play next.  But, they still have to take many hours to painfully memorize each song.  Our students are able to read music.  Our students can play a song well the first time they look at it, without ever having played that song before.  (This is the difference between reading music and sight-reading music.  Or, playing music at first sight.)
